This has got to be one of my favorite scenes from this episode. Because we see Mycroft in just complete panic for a few seconds and the utter resignation. I mean, he has not moved from this spot since receiving the text from Moriarty that basically informed him that his brother had unwittingly destroyed years of planning. Mycroft hasn’t just failed at his job, he’s failed as a brother. He never saw Sherlock being taken in by a woman like Irene Addler, and what was worse was that he should have known and he should have done more to stop it. He’s been outsmarted, and it’s fucking killing him. The first real show of emotion we get from Mycroft that isn’t just Sherlock getting a playful rise out of him, or trying to protect Sherlock from himself, is Mycroft feeling utterly defeated.
